Music Blog Challenge - Week One, Goal Four: PERFORMANCE

When I had my CD Release show for “Deviant” back in January 2005, I was shocked by how much money I made. After the club’s cut of the tickets sold, splitting the remainder of the door with friend and co-headliner Tim Kaye, and adding in CD sales and T-shirt sales and subtracting the money I had to pay the 3 players in my band, I still cleared about $300 and some change. With better marketing , a bigger audience, more merch, more cds available and less expenses, there is no reason I wouldn’t be able to clear $500 at a show. It’s pretty aggressive but my goal is to do that 6 times next year, or maybe just 3 times and really pack the place.

ONE YEAR PERFORMANCE GOAL: TO MAKE $3,000 PROFIT FROM PEFORMANCES BY OCTOBER 31, 2011.

I plan to reach this goal by focusing on the following:

1. I just have to get out there, performing whenever and wherever I can. And since I travel for my job, this will give me the opportunity to also perform in different cities across the US if I plan properly. I will start booking a minimum of 1 performance a month by January 4, 2011.

2. I will get performance tracks from the studio for all of the songs on my latest cd by January 4, 2011.

3. I will send press kits to 20 Pride markets by February 2, 2011.

4. I will book my CD Launch party and CD release shows (San Francisco and Baltimore) by December 31, 2010.

5. I will find back up dancers and a choreographer for the CD release shows and other shows throughout the year by January 20, 2011.

6. I will plan, conceptualize and book 3 “event” shows for next by March 1, 2011. (The CD Release show is one such “event”.)

7. I will come up with some goodies (merch) to sell at shows. I made more money from my “Deviant” T-shirt than I did from cd sales at shows. I will come up with something by February 28, 2011.
